The firm is led by Attorney William P. Joyce who retired as an Immigration Judge after spending more than thirty years with the United States Department of Justice. Attorney Joyce is complemented by a team of associate attorneys with extensive experience in the field of immigration law. Our paralegals are knowledgeable about all types of immigration processes and speak a variety of foreign languages fluently.

Our office is centrally located a short walk from the John F. Kennedy Federal Building in Government Center. We are also across the street from the USCIS Application Support Center.

Honorable William P. Joyce – Managing Director

William P. Joyce Esq. retired as an Immigration Judge in the United States Immigration Court in July 2002. Prior to becoming an Immigration Judge, Judge Joyce served as Legal Counsel to the Chief Immigration Judge who supervised 210 Immigration Judges throughout the United States. In that capacity, Judge Joyce worked closely with other branches in the Justice Department and Congress in complex legal matters affecting the Immigration Court.

Judge Joyce was also an Assistant United States Attorney of the Eastern District of Virginia, the Associate General Counsel of INS, and worked under Bill Weld at the United States Attorney Office in Boston. He is a graduate of the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service and the Georgetown University Law School.

Judge Joyce serves as Managing Director of Joyce and Associates. He has personally represented clients in extremely complex immigration cases with excellent results. These cases range from detained criminal aliens to individuals seeking relief through family and business petitions. He also can provide detailed analysis of individual cases with the likelihood of success. Further, Judge Joyce is actively involved in our business practice both in the obtaining of business visas and providing technical assistance to companies with compliance with immigrant requirements.


Alysha M. Welsh, Immigration lawyer at Joyce & Associates, Boston

Alysha M. Welsh

Alysha M. Welsh received her Juris Doctor cum laude from Suffolk University Law School with distinction in International Law in 2012.  She received her bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Boston University.  Prior to joining Joyce & Associates, Alysha worked with a Boston based immigration law firm where she earned experience in deportation defense, family and humanitarian petitions and business and employment petitions.  Alysha began her career as an AmeriCorps fellow with legal aid in Fall River, Massachusetts.  Alysha is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the United States District Court, District of Massachusetts.

Laura C. Joyce

Laura C. Joyce received her Juris Doctor degree from Boston College Law School. She received her Master’s in Social Work specializing in clinical social work with children and family’s as well as her bachelor’s degree in sociology also from Boston College. Prior to joining Joyce & Associates, Laura worked as a therapist at the Boston Children’s Hospital, the Brandon Residential Treatment Center and she continues to work part time at Bright Futures Adoptions. She is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  At Boston College Law School, she was the president of the Children’s Rights Law Group and represented children and their families in juvenile court and in family court matters. Laura has as particular interest in the overlap between family law and immigration law and represents many of our clients in the Family and Probate Court. Laura is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.


Tiffany Andrade, Immigration lawyer at Joyce & Associates, Boston

Tiffany Andrade 

Tiffany R. Andrade received her Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School in 2015. She received her bachelor’s degree in Government from Suffolk University in 2010. While in law school, Tiffany was in the Immigration Clinic, where she had her first Adjustment of Status case and got her Cape Verdean client his Green Card before the Boston Immigration Court. Tiffany interned at various non profits and law firms during law school; including with Political Asylum/Immigration Representation (PAIR), working on Asylum cases. Prior to joining Joyce & Associates, Tiffany worked at an East Boston Immigration firm where she represented detained clients, worked with Asylees, Special Immigrant Juveniles (SIJ), and worked on criminal and civil matters. Tiffany speaks Cape Verdean Creole and Spanish, and is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts

Kate C. Robins received her Juris Doctor from the University of Oklahoma School of Law where she served as the Articles Editor for the American Indian Law Review. Prior to joining Joyce & Associates, Kate worked at a business immigration law firm where successful clients included Wimbledon champions and NBA stars, as well as industry leaders in business, technology, science and academics. Kate is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Flavio Barros

Flavio Barros was born and raised in Lisbon, Portugal. He studied Sociology and Business Studies at Kingston University in London, UK. Before becoming an Immigration Paralegal, Flavio worked in several European countries in the areas of Business and Marketing. Flavio is currently our most Senior Paralegal, with substantial experience in Family and Business immigration cases, as well as Deportation Defense. Flavio brings an invaluable skill set to our firm; he is fluent in Portuguese, Spanish, and Cape Verdean Creole.
Chris Fang Li, Paralegal at Joyce & Associates, Boston

Chris Fang Li

Chris Fang Li received her Master’s Degree in Higher Education in Administration from Merrimack College in 2015 and her Bachelors of Arts in English Literature from Zhengzhou University, China, in 2008. She worked at Merrimack College as a graduate fellow in the 2014 academic year. As a student immigrant, Chris has first-hand experience with the immigrant community, and a passion to serve others like her. She is fluent in Mandarin.

Maria A. Ordonez 

Maria Andrea Ordoñez holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California Irvine. She has experience working in the immigration field since 2012, in California previously and now here in Boston, MA. She was born in Bucaramanga, Colombia and immigrated to the United States with her family. Her continued passion to serve the immigrant community stems from her personal experience as an immigrant. She is in her second year at Suffolk University Law School pursing her Juris Doctorate in hopes of becoming an immigration lawyer. She is fluent in Spanish.

Gabriela Castro Alves 

Gabriela Castro Alves received her Bachelors of the Arts in Political Science from Suffolk University. She was born and raised in Brazil and came to the United States in 2009 giving her personal experience with the immigration process which she now translates into her work with the firm.  Before joining Joyce and Associates, she worked as personal injury paralegal in Boston. Gabriela has aspirations to go to law school and practice immigration law as she has the passion to help other. Gabriela has native fluency in Portuguese.

Jessica I. Cuellar 

Jessica Cuellar graduated from the University of Mary Washington where she received a Bachelor’s of Arts in International Affairs. Before joining J&A, she interned with the United States Committee for Refugee and Immigrants and worked in a non-profit Refugee Resettlement Agency in the Washington D.C. area. As a child of Colombian immigrants, she hopes to continue to help and serve the immigrant community in the Boston area. She is fluent in Spanish.

Gregory Castillo

Gregory is a lawyer from the Dominican Republic who came to the United States to help many Hispanic people that feel without resource due to the language barrier. Although he was born in the United States both of his parents and the majority of his family are from the Dominican Republic and he lived there for 15 years before coming to the United States. He has an LLM (Master of Law) degree from Boston College Law School. Before joining Joyce & Associates he worked doing Personal Injury and Immigration law. He is committed to helping the non-English speaking community.

Helen Yu

Jingyi Helen Yu received her LLM (Master of Law) Degree from Boston University Law School in 2017.She also holds a Bachelor of Law and a Bachelor of Economic from East China University of Political Science and Law. Helen has passed Chinese Bar Exam in China, and she worked for a U.S. law firm in Shanghai before she came to the U.S. Helen has 2 years’ experience as a Credit Risk Analyst in a financial. As a student immigration applicant, Helen has passions to help others like her. She is committed to serving the immigrant community. Helen is fluent in Mandarin.

Gabriel Montresor

Gabriel Viteke Montresor holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy & Political Science from Boston University. He also holds a minor in Brazilian Studies and Portuguese Language. Gabriel has worked in Immigration Advocacy throughout his undergraduate career with organizations such as MIRA and The Brazilian Women’s Group. He was born and raised in Massachusetts and is the son of two Brazilian Immigrants. His passion in immigration is a result of his family’s experience and that of the rest of his community, where many loved ones have gone through the immigration process. Gabriel is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish.

Clara Goncalves holds a Bachelor of Science degree in International Business with minors in Mathematics and Accounting and Finance. She graduated summa cum laude with departmental honors. In her final year at school she spent a lot of time presenting to her classes the importance of immigration to the United States in light of the political party change in the White House. Jose Miranda – Office Manager

Jose was born and raised in Brazil. He attended one year of Business Administration at U.N.A and one year of Engineering at E. Eng. Kennedy, Brazil. Prior to coming to the United States, he was a General Branch Manager of a Federal Bank, where he worked for more than 17 years. He is also a technician in automobile from SENAI-F.I.E.M.G, Brazil. He is fluent in English and Portuguese.

Rita Armstrong

Rita Armstrong graduated in LETRAS “Degree in Languages”  from UNIVALE University of Vale Do Rio Doce in Brazil. She studied arts in Brazil and became a painting artist in oil and acrylic canvas. Her experience also includes working as a program coordinator at Fisk and Harvest English School in both, Brazil and the United States. She has been working at Joyce & Associates since 2013 as an Office Coordinator. As an immigrant, she has a passion for serving all the immigrant communities. She is fluent in English and Portuguese.
